Pierschbacher hits national stage

Cedar Falls (IA) offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher leaves for Oregon on Thursday to participate in the special invite only camp "The Opening" presented by Nike. As one of only a handful of Class of 2014 prospects that will be going, the 6-foot-4, 275-pound Pierschbacher is in some pretty elite company and feels honored to get a chance to take part in the event.

"It's a great opportunity," said Pierschbacher. "I was pretty surprised to get the invite and very honored. There are only like two other kids in my class that are going and I'm the only offensive lineman for 2014. So now I've got to go out there and perform and show that I belong."

With early scholarship offers in hand from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin, Pierschbacher already figures to be one of the top recruits in the Midwest next year, but this week will give him a chance to see where he stacks up nationally, working against some of the country's best players a year ahead of him.

"I'm looking forward to going up against the best competition in the country," Pierschbacher said. "It's a chance to measure your ability against those kinds of guys. I'm sure it will be a good learning experience and there will be some things that I can take back home and put into my game that will help me in the long run."
