Wisconsin nets third verbal in 2010

A little less than two months after he received an offer from Badger head coach Bret Bielema during an unofficial visit to Madison, 2010 defensive tackle Bryce Gilbert pledged his commitment to the University of Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-2, 277-pound junior from Brookfield (Wis.) Central, who also had offers from Indiana, Northern Iowa and Eastern Illinois, made his decision Friday.

Brookfield Central has produced a handful of Badgers in the past few years, a list that included Joe Thomas, Ben Strickland, Steve Johnson and current UW athletes Rob Korslin and Brad Nortman.

Gilbert was the fifth known in-state prospect in the current junior class to garner and offer from UW.

Wide receiver Marquis Mason (Madison East) and linebacker Konrad Zagzebski (D.C. Everest) have both given their verbal to the Badgers, while Will Hagerup (Whitefish Bay) and Mike Hardy (Kimberly) are still weighing their options.

Gilbert totaled 20 solo tackles, 31 assisted tackles and seven sacks last season. Along with running backs Jeff Lewis and Xavier Whitaker, Central has three of the top prospects in Wisconsin heading into the 2009 season.
