Mr. Football Projection: The Candidates

Marlon Humphrey, five-star cornerback, Hoover High School
Humphrey won't put up the gaudy numbers like most award winners, but he is considered the best player in the state. He ranks the No. 5 overall player in the country by Rivals.com. Humphrey seldom sees action come to his side of the because schools know it's usually a mistake when they throw it his way. Hoover High School may move him to safety this fall in certain situations. He will also return kicks.
Racean Thomas, Rivals100 running back, Oxford High School
Thomas is also a strong candidate for Mr. Football. He has been the workhorse for the Yellow Jackets the previous two seasons. He is expected to have a monster senior year and compared to the best running back to come out of northeast Alabama in the past 20 years. Thomas is clearly one of the frontrunner's for the state's highest award.
Kendrick Doss, three-star quarterback, Florence High School
The Ole Miss commitment passed for more than 1,700 yards and rushed for more than 1,000 last fall in Class 6A. he will likely receive an invite to the ceremony if the Falcons make a deep run the playoffs this fall as expected.
Kerryon Johnson, running back, Madison Academy (2015)
The do-it-all prospect is considered one of the premier players in the state regardless of class. He helped the Mustangs to the Class 3A state championship in 2012. He has been one of the best players in north Alabama for two years. The future Rivals100 prospect is expected to have a big junior campaign.
Darkhorse: Matthew Jordan quarterback, Jackson High School
Jackson is a powerhouse program and looks to contend for the Class 5A crown this fall. Jordan threw three touchdown passes in one half of action during the spring against Vigor High School. He had an impressive summer camp circuit before committing to Georgia Tech. Mr. Football is not out of reach for Jordan if he has a successful season and takes his team to the Super Six.
