Fredrick Rich, athlete from Tanner High School in Ala., was named the Class 2A state finals MVP following his teams' 28-14 win against Washington County High School. Rich helped guide his team to an undefeated season after losing in the state finals a year ago.
"I am real surprised for real," Rich said after his team's vicory.
"Last year we came out and I was about ready to cry. We were able to turn things around this year.
"Last year I didn't have mind on the game until about the third play. All I could think about was playing in that big stadium in Tuscaloosa. I wasn't worried about how big the stadium was this year.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound UAB commitment had 13 rushing attempts for 79 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 26-yard interception return. He is looking forward to his future with the Blazers.
"I am staying with UAB," he said. "They were the first school to come in and offer me. They have stuck by me. I have heard from a few other schools like Murray State, but I am good with my commitment.
"They have me down as a linebacker. That's what they want me to play when I get there. It doesn't matter to me though. I'll play wherever they want me to play."
