Player of the Week, 9-5

Will Herring ignited Opelika's 37-14 win over Central-Tuscaloosa last week with a 92-yard touchdown run in the opening period. The senior quarterback went on to rush for 189 yards on 14 carries and scored twice as coach Spence McCracken registered his 200th career win.
For his efforts, Herring is this week's www.alabamaprepsports.com AhSAA state player of the week.

He edged out a strong defensive effort by Thompson defensive back Tony Bell, and a 256-yard rushing performance by Pinson Valley's Hiram White.
Chris Jackson, the first www.alabamaprepsports.com player of the week, also had his second straight 300-yard rushing performance as Glenwood won 34-7 over Meadowview Christian in the AISA. That effort won him the player of the week award in the AISA for the second straight week.
