The state features three very athletic playmakers at the quarterback position and all are recruited as athletes: Jay Jones, three-star from McAdory High School in McCalla, TaDarryl Marshall, three-star from Leeds High School, and Ty Pigrome, three-star from Clay-Chalkville High School.
Jones (6-1, 190) draws a lot of comparisons to Alabama wide receiver, ArDarius Stewart. He has SEC offers from Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State. Marshall is a very electric playmaker. Most schools are recruiting him as an athlete, and Auburn recently offered as a defensive back. Marshall named a top five (all have offered) of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Samford and Tennessee.
Pigrome (5-11, 180) is the smallest of the group, but was one of the most productive players in Alabama last fall. He accounted for 61 touchdowns and was runner-up to Mr. Football. Pigrome has scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy.
Zac Thomas, quarterback from Hewitt-Trussville High School, has scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky. Several Power5 schools are waiting to see him in the spring and summer.
The state will feature two elite quarterbacks in the 2017 class in Jake Bentley, from Opelika High School, and Daulton Hyatt, from Arab High School. Both should receive numerous offers and their stock will continue to rise.
Bentley received an offer from Auburn when he was a freshman playing in South Carolina before the move to Alabama. He remains a major target for the Tigers. He also has offers from Miami, Southern Miss and Temple. Hyatt received his first offer from Miami last month.
Running backs
Several at this position have collected scholarship offers and should see their offer list continue to grow in the spring.
Alaric Williams, 2017 Rivals100 running back from Southside High School in Gadsden, is the top in-state back set to compete in the Rivals Camp. Williams has several offers including Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia and Kentucky.
Kingston Davis, three-star running back, has an opportunity to emerge with several major offers in the next few months. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound prospect has already received offers from Georgia Southern, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy.
Jarrion Street, running back from Hewitt-Trussville, has offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama and Southern Miss. Tyus Flakes, running back from Auburn High School, has offers from Arkansas State, Army, Georgia Southern, North Texas, South Alabama and Southern Miss.
Tre Nation, three-star from Leeds High School, Lamical Perine, three-star from Theodore High School, and Brandon Simmons, three-star from Pleasant Grove High School, have been recruited for a while. All came on the scene early in their high school careers.
Nation has offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, Louisville, Mississippi State, Navy, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Western Kentucky. Perine's offer sheet includes Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Minnesota, Mississippi State, South Alabama and Southern Miss. Simmons has offers from Jacksonville State and Wake Forest.
Damon Williams, class of 2017 from Gadsden City High School, is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete with offers from Louisville, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky.
Wide receiver/tight ends
T.J. Simmons, three-star wide receiver from Clay-Chalkville High School, is the top player at his position in the state. The Alabama commitment will showcase his skills and possibly move to four-stars with a strong performance in Atlanta.
Velus Jones, wide receiver from Saraland High School, is also looking to make a great impression. Jones is looking to move from unranked to three or four-stars in the next rankings update. The offers are starting to roll in from the likes of Cincinnati, Florida, Louisville and UCLA. He also has offers from Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy.
Quan Weaver, wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, and Terrance Watkins, wide receiver from Athens High School, are looking for more attention. Weaver stands 6-foot-3, 190-pounds and has offers from South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy. Watkins is one of the best athletes in north Alabama. He recently received his first offer from Southern Miss.
Liallen Dailey, 2018 wide receiver from Pinson Valley High School, is drawing a lot of early attention. His head coach, Matt Glover, believes Dailey is possibly the best receiver he has coached. The talented freshman has an early offer from Louisville.
Jamal Couch, three-star tight end from Central High School in Phenix City, committed to Florida State last week. Couch will turn some heads in Atlanta, and might do enough to move up to four-stars. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound athlete can play tight end or linebacker. Kyle Fourtenbary, tight end from Opelika High School, also looks to impress. He has offers from Air Force, Arkansas State, South Alabama and Troy.
Offensive line
The state has been known to produce great offensive line talent. A few of the next wave of prospects will compete in Atlanta. Austin Troxell, 2017 Rivals100 offensive tackle from Madison Academy High School, will have a lot of eyes on him with his 6-foot-8, 275-pound frame. Troxell has offers from Alabama and Auburn.
Tyler Pritchett, three-star offensive guard from Auburn High School, has more than 20 offers. His offer list includes Arizona, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina and Syracuse.
Kendall Randolph, 2017 offensive tackle from Bob Jones High School in Madison, has offers from Louisville and New Mexico State. The 6-foo-5, 275-pound lineman is the younger brother of Alabama basketball player, Levi Randolph.
The defensive preview for the Rivals Camp presented by Under Armour will come out on Wednesday which features three five-stars from the state of Alabama.
